Search for new Commerce Fire Chief continues

Commerce – The search for a new Fire Chief for Commerce continues. Former Chief Wayne Hines has shipped out to become a contract firefighter in Iraq. Police Chief Kerry Crews has taken over as interim Fire Chief until a new chief can be selected. Commerce has received 14 applications for the position so far, with 4 of those selected for interviews beginning around June 20th, according to City Manager Bill Shipp.

SHIPP: We're setting up interviews for, I belive, the 20th of this month. So we're planning (for it to be) like a full day affair with the applicants that we're going to interview. We'll give them a tour of the town. We will interview each one individually. We will have a lunch that will include all of the candidates along with department heads and council members.

One major task ahead for the new Fire Chief will be to continue the process of improving the city's ISO rating. The city has been exploring options to improve the rating for some time. The Insurance Services Organization, or ISO, rates the ability of fire departments to protect the city. The rating affects insurance rates for homeowners.
