Sentencing delayed in intoxication assault case

By Brad Kellar

Quinlan – Sentencing for a local man was delayed due to Tuesday's inclement weather. A new sentencing hearing has now been scheduled for Monday, December 22, for Israel Perez Gutierrez, of Quinlan. Gutierrez entered an open plea of guilty to the intoxication assault charge in October, which means no potential sentence in the case had been offered or arranged. Gutierrez was alleged to have been driving while intoxicated in August, 2006 and struck another vehicle. The victim in the crash was hospitalized with injuries for more than three weeks. Gutierrez could face from two to 20 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
