Sentencing today for Brown

Hunt Co. Sheriff's Dept.

A formal sentencing hearing is scheduled today for Micah Crofford Brown, convicted of capital murder in connection with the 2011 death of Stella Michelle “Doc” Ray.

A jury in the 354th District Court Friday returned a sentence of death by lethal injection for Brown. Judge Richard A. Beacom will formally pronounce the sentence during the hearing, set in the court at 11 a.m. today.

An appeal is automatic in capital murder cases.

Hunt County has not sentenced a defendant to the death penalty since Adam Kelly Ward in 2007, for the capital murder of Michael “Pee Wee” Walker. Ward does not yet have an execution date scheduled.

Billy John Galloway and Kevin Scott Varga were executed in 2010 for the 1998 murder in Greenville of Major David Lawrence Logie.
