ROCKWALL - A former chairman of the East Texas State University Board of Regents and distinguished alumnus was laid to rest over the weekend.

Raymond Cameron died on January 5 at the age of 92.

Cameron received a Bachelor of Science from East Texas State Teacher’s College, and went on to serve 11 years as a member of the Board of Regents, including two as chairman. He was also President of the Ex-Students Association and president of the Foundation Board. In 1978, Cameron was named a Distinguished Alumnus.

As a citizen of Rockwall, Cameron served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, School Board, Rotary Club and City Council member. The city lake is named in his honor. The university flag at A&M-Commerce will fly at half staff Monday in honor of Cameron.
