Settlement proposed in possible litigation with former Bonham fire chief

North Texas E-News

BONHAM - The City of Bonham on Monday following executive session approved to offer an undisclosed settlement to former Fire Chief Bill Palya.

In 2010, Palya was placed on administrative leave with pay where he remained for five months until his firing that December.

The Texas Rangers conducted an investigation of Palya, details of which have never been disclosed, but evidence presented to a grand jury did not warrant criminal charges.

Payla had served with the city for roughly five years.

North Texas E-News report that the City of Bonham carries errors and omission insurance with the Texas Municipal League and that TML has funded all of the legal costs associated with the case. The organization, who took a lead role in negotiating the settlement, will also fund the majority of the agreement.
