Settlement reached in one of two Hunt County jail suits

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – A lawsuit is still being pursued against the creators of the Hunt County Jail.

Commissioners on Friday approved a $770,000 settlement via arbitration. The law firm of Scott, Money & Ray in January filed a suit seeking $10 million for the county against Burns Architecture Incorporated, the architects for the jail.

A suit remains pending against Frank W. Neal & Associates Incorporated, the engineers.

Both companies are accused of failing to adhere to warnings the structure was being built on unstable soil. The facility began showing cracks and other problems even before it was completed. The problems with the jail have continued and are expected to for the foreseeable future, according to the suit.
