Severe weather bears down on Hunt County

Commerce, TX –

A tornado warning topped severe weather that moved through the KETR listening area Monday evening.

At 5:41 p.m., the National Weather Service in Ft. Worth issued a severe thunderstorm Warning for Hunt County. At that time the storm was producing nickel-sized hail and gusty winds.

At 6:04 p.m. the storm was upgraded to a tornado warning for Hunt County following the report of a tornado developing near Quinlan.

According to Hunt County Emergency Manager Richard Hill, no tornados touched down. There were several sightings of funnel clouds in the Hunt County area. No reports of injures were received in the Emergency Operations Center in Commerce. There was minor damage to trees and a power line went down in Commerce as the storm moved thru the city around 7:00 p.m. There were reports of some power outages and TXU power was working to return power to affected customers.

As the storm continued to move to the north and east it prompted more tornado warnings for Delta, Hopkins, and Lamar counties. This storm moved out of the KETR listening area around 8:45 p.m.
