Severe weather brings closings, slick roads

By Scott Harvey

– Road and electrical crews throughout the region have activated emergency weather procedures amid Tuesday's projected icy conditions.

Texas Department of Transportation personnel are pre-treating major roadways along with bridges and overpasses by distributing anti-icing materials. TxDOT supervisors will continually monitor the weather and road conditions.

Oncor crews are also preparing for power outages as winds of between 20 and 30 mph could cause line damage. The weight of ice and snow on cables and tree limbs could also lead to service interruptions. Officials say it takes only a quarter inch of ice to down a power line. Some outages were being reporting early this morning in parts of the Metroplex.

During last month's winter blast, the Northeast Texas region was left virtually unscathed in terms of power outages. Officials are hoping for the same scenario today.
