Sharp officially takes over as A&M Chancellor

College Station – The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has formally named veteran public servant John Sharp as chancellor.

The announcement comes following the state-mandated 21-day waiting period. Sharp was named the sole finalist for the position Aug. 15.

A 1972 graduate of Texas A&M University, Sharp will lead the 19-member system, which has an annual budget of $3.3 billion and externally funded research expenditures in excess of $772 million. Enrollment at the A&M System s 11 universities and health science center has swelled to more than 120,000.

Sharp comes to the A&M System from Ryan & Company, where he was a principal with the largest state and local tax consulting firm of its kind in Texas.
