Greenville – An investigation into Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks finds he illegally solicited donations from the public.
County Attorney Joe Littlefield was asked last year whether letters sent by the Sheriff to provide a training seminar for officers were in violation. When ordered to stop sending the letters, Meeks complied.
In a related matter, Littlefield investigation the Friends of the Sheriff website, concerning a request for special thank-you gifts for deputies, also found in violation dealing with the acceptance of honorariums.
Littlefield, however, has chosen not to pursue charges as he believes Meeks was unaware the request for donations were against the law.
