Sheriff elected, potential runoff in Commissioner's race

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – Hunt County has a new sheriff, but questions remain about one commissioner's race.

Unofficial final results from Tuesday's General Election show Republican candidate Randy Meeks has won the sheriff's race, claiming about 65% of the vote over Democratic challenger Dewey Watson.

The Hunt County Commissioner Precinct 1 race may be headed to a runoff, as incumbent Democrat Kenneth Thornton received 50.07% of the votes, just 10 more votes than republican candidate Mike Peirce.

Incumbent Democrat Phillip Martin apparently has lost reelection for Commissioner for Precinct 3 to Republican Larry Middlebrooks. Middlebrooks received 51.36% of the vote.
