The first of what is expected to be multiple town hall meetings concerning crime in Hunt County is scheduled tonight in Lone Oak.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said the meeting, set for 6 p.m. at the Lone Oak Civic Center, is designed to open a dialogue between his office and the communities within Hunt County about current crime trends and to share information.

Meeks said he plans to conduct similar meetings throughout the county.

“I will have my command staff present as well as elected officials that serve this area of Hunt County,” Meeks said. “It will give the citizens an opportunity to find out who represents them in local government affairs as well as meeting with officials of the Sheriff’s Office.

“Also, the patrol deputy that works that area will be present. We will be able to help communities set up crime watch programs, give crime tips, discuss issues that our citizens may be having with stray animals, noise complaints, etc.”

Tonight’s meeting is to address the communities of Lone Oak, Prairie Valley and the surrounding areas, is open to the public and will include a question and answer session afterward.
