Shooting at local KFC leaves one man dead

By Scott Harvey

Paris – An East Texas man is charged with murder after allegedly gunning down another man inside a Paris restaurant.

Police responded to Kentucky Fried Chicken on Clarksville St. at around 8 p.m. Sunday where they observed several employees running from the restaurant, claiming two men were inside, and one with a gun.

As officers were taking positions outside the building, 26-year-old Dustin Michael Cooper, of Center, exited the restaurant and surrendered to police. Inside, they located a man, later identified as 53-year-old Patrick Steven Gandy, of Shelbyville, with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene from his injuries.

Police would discover Cooper had a prior felony conviction and also charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He was transported to Paris Police Department where he was booked in without further incident.

An investigation into the shooting is continuing.
