Hopkins County Sheriff’s officials were alerted by family members of 79-year old Lee A. Jones at approximately 3:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon, July 11 of his disappearance from his home on County Road 1180.
On Sunday, July 26 his body was located about one mile from his home. A search team from Bowie County located the elderly man in dense undergrowth. The man wandered away from his home while in the care of his sister.
The missing elderly man is reported to be suffering from dementia and other health issues. Hopkins County, Arbala, North Hopkins, Sulphur Bluff and Cumby fire fighters along with sheriff’s deputies and posse and the Red Cross were put into action to help locate Jones. Texas Department of Criminal Justice dogs, Department of Public Safety helicopter searched by air, and a DPS dive team have also been called in an attempt to locate the missing man.
The family is having a private service.
