Slideshow: 2012 Tour de Paris

PARIS - Bicycle enthusiasts were not deterred from temperatures well into the triple digits Saturday as roughly 900 from across the region participated in the 2012 Tour de Paris.

“Very good ride. Very well organized. The commute was great,” said Jim Jackson. The Whitehouse resident rode in the 110K – the longest of the route options - while his teenage daughter Diana traveled 60 kilometers.

With routes starting at daybreak, most riders were able to avoid the sweltering heat, while some participants didn’t finish until well after 2 p.m. Despite the heat, event-goers tell us they were satisfied with the availability of resources to stay hydrated.

Edward from Plano says, “Stops were plentiful, we kept passing them up. I appreciate all the young ladies who spent their time making cookies and brownies for us because those were wonderful. And all the boy scouts and all the other folks out there helping put this on. A great thank you to everyone.”

The 28th annual event brought cyclists of all ages and included a pancake breakfast before of the ride with hamburgers and smoothies afterward. Prizes were also awarded throughout the day.
