The lights on the final scoreboard truly said it all on the Homecoming of the Cooper Bulldogs last Friday night under the lights. It was a bitter sweet Homecoming win for the hometown Cooper Bulldogs with the 55-0 final over the Prairiland Patriots, honoring fallen Bulldog Brayden Withrow #55. “We have worked on some things, and we have seen some success,” said Cooper Bulldog Head Football Coach Ronnie Green. “It is a good way to go into a bye week. We can heal some bruises and be ready to go for the next week.” As each of the Bulldog coaching staff has the #55 embroidered on their game shirt collars. His name and number of the 6-foot-1 junior lineman remains on the Bulldog roster. The players write #55 on the tape on their arms and tack the 55 on the back of their helmets. On Fridays they roam the hallways with T-shirts sporting the honor, “Gone, but not Forgotten …We Play for Witty.” It is quite apparent who they are on the turf playing for this season.
Bulldog defense was front and center Friday night as they pitched a shutout on the way to opening District 6-3A, Division II play with a win.
In the shutout the Bulldogs held the Patriots to 65 yards of offense, five first downs, and zero rushing yards. Offense scored early and often putting 30 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter.
Prior to kickoff senior Brinna Walker was crowned the 2017 Cooper High School Homecoming Queen. She was escorted by her father, Kris Walker.
