Slideshow: 2017 Independence Celebration

The 26th Annual Independence Day Celebration Concert and Fireworks Spectacular was held on Celebration Plaza in Sulphur Springs on Saturday, July 1.

This annual crowd-pleasing event is produced by the Sulphur Springs Symphony League which presented the Northeast Texas Symphony Orchestra and conductor Dr. Douglas Bakenus.

The major supporters of the evening’s performance were made possible by underwriting sponsors Alliance Bank, who is celebrating their 90th Anniversary, Grocery Supply Company and the Symphony League Auction.

Sulphur Springs Symphony League President Maleta Reynolds welcomed the public gathered and gave her thanks on the behalf of the league.

President of Alliance Bank Tom Sellers opened the activities for the evening followed by the posting of the colors by the Hopkins County Military Coalition. City of Sulphur Springs Mayor John Sellers led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Guest Conductor for the evening was Patty Isonhood, and honorary detonator of the fireworks was Bill Owens, who represented his part well decked out in red, white, and blue.

The Orchestra played several patriotic tunes including, “The Star Spangled Banner,” “Armed Forces Salute,” “America The Beautiful,” and “God Bless America.”
