Motorists will be able to drive just a little bit faster on many highways in North Texas, including Hunt County, starting today.
The Texas Department of Transportation announced Monday that its contractor, Massana Construction of Frisco, will be changing 70 mph speed limit signs to 75 mph in Grayson, Hunt, Delta, Rains, Fannin, Lamar, Franklin and Red River counties within the Paris District.
Starting today, the signs will be changed on state Highways 19 and 24 in Hunt, Lamar, Delta and Rains counties, Highways 289, 82 and 75 in Grayson County, Highway 37 south of Bogata in Red River and Franklin Counties and Highway 121 in Fannin County.
Speed limits will remain the same in the construction zone of highway 82 in Grayson and Fannin Counties; once the new 4-lane divided highway is complete the signs will be changed.
The TxDOT announcement indicated the new signs should be up within a couple of days, weather permitting.
The new speed limit does not go into effect until the new signs are installed.
