Kaufman – Kaufman County Justice of the Peace Johnny Perry has awarded custody of 20 dogs seized from a property there last week to the SPCA.
The announcement came following a hearing that began Tuesday and ended Wednesday. Judge Perry also awarded restitution to the SPCA in the amount of over $5,200.
The animal owner, Connie Botkin, admitted that conditions were poor and that the animals were in bad shape. Last Friday, some dogs were found confined to wire crates in a mobile home and others to a second, feces-filled property.
Most of the dogs were thin and did not have access to appropriate food or water.
SPCA will now individually evaluate the animals for potential adoption or placement on a case by case basis.
