SPCA caring for animals ahead of custody hearing

WILLS POINT - A custody hearing is set for this week in Van Zandt County following last week’s seizure of 35 animals from an alleged puppy mill in Wills Point.

Authorities say they retrieved 22 dogs, 11 cats, one pig and one goat from the property. The animals are currently under the care of the SPCA of Texas.  Deputies say the animals were cruelly confined, forced to live in their own filth and were not receiving proper water or food.

Charges are pending against the puppy mill owner.

The custody hearing will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Van Zandt County Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Courthouse.
