'Spirit of Christmas' coming to downtown Greenville

City of Greenville

The Christmas spirit is likely to be strongly felt in downtown Greenville this weekend.

The second annual “Spirit of Giving” event is being presented by the Greenville Lions Club, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Farmers Market downtown.

The Spirit of Giving is designed not as a charity event, but as a community Christmas party. And everything is free.

During the event the Farmers Market will be transformed into a group of “stations” where volunteers will give away everything from toys and canned goods to coats, shoes, blankets, cookies, concessions and more.

Last year, the Spirit of Giving in Greenville assisted 1,500 people, giving away more than 4,000 toys, 50 bicycles and many other items.

Registration for the Spirit of Giving begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and the gates to the event open at  10 a.m.

Anyone wanting additional information, or who may want to make a donation, can contact Chuck Francey at 903-268-6454 or through email at chuckfrancey@yahoo.com.
