Additional details about the Splash Kingdom water park planned for Greenville are expected to be released right after Thanksgiving.
Johnny Blevins, president/CEO of the Canton-based Splash Kingdom, said Wednesday that it won’t be long before a formal announcement is issued from the company.
“We definitely will be making an official announcement very soon, I’d say the first week of December,” Blevins said. “We are very excited.”
The Greenville City Council voted Tuesday to enter into an economic development agreement which will bring Splash Kingdom to the city.
Splash Kingdom is also expected to serve as the anchor for the Greenville Towne Center project along the Interstate 30 frontage road, as multiple restaurants are reportedly interested in building near the water park.
The official announcement will come right about the same time as construction begins on the water park. Officials with Splash Kingdom have indicated they need to begin construction on the water park by early next month, if it is to open as planned next summer.
Blevins said the official announcement would reveal specifics about what will be included in the park and may also include artist’s conceptions of what the water park will look like once completed.
Under the economic development agreement Splash Kingdom would spend $5 million to build the park, which would include no less than one major water slide, a lazy river, a wave pool, a children’s wading area, offices, concessions and parking.
