Stabbing in Bonham

Bonham – Bonham police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Friday evening. Police received several 911 calls around 6:30 Friday evening concerning an assault by a man with a knife. Units were dispatched to the 800 block of South 4th Street where they found a 42 year old white male laying in the front yard with several stab wounds.

Witnesses told police they had last seen the man responsible chasing a female in the backyard. Officers moved to the back and saw 37 year old Daniel Hughen chasing a woman toward a vacant lot. Sgt. David Thompson ordered the man to halt. Hughen then stopped chasing the woman and began approaching Thompson, refusing orders to stop. Thompson fired one shot into the ground at Hughen's feet, stopping him momentarily and allowing Cpl. Richard Lundy to tackle the man from the side.

Hughen is charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. The victim was flown to Parkland Hospital.
