Standardized dress moves forward in Commerce schools

By Bill Oliver

Commerce, TX – The Commerce School Board of Trustees voted 5-2, allowing the administration to form a committee that will make recommendations March 26th. Voting no were Debbie Aikin and Willie Blow.

Superintendent Keith Boles planned on having details by the end of the school year in May so parents have time to acquire clothing.

There was no discussion Monday night to indicate the type and color of clothes or if this will apply district-wide or to a limited number of buildings.

CISD administrators are also laying the groundwork so low income families will have enough clothes for the start of the next school year. Over 70 percent of 700 Commerce district parents and patrons who returned a survey accepted or strongly supported standardized dress.
