Starks receives Citizen of the Year at Chamber Banquet

Commerce – Several Commerce citizens and businesses were recognized Thursday night, at the annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet, held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce.

This year's theme was Oscar Night, and celebrated the Chamber's 100 year anniversary through a series of historic highlights, music, and award presentations.

Perhaps the most distinguished award, Citizen of the Year, was presented to Karen Starks. Starks currently serves as Vice President for Special Events for the Chamber, and was instrumental in the several key events last year, including the annual Bois D' Bash and July 4 celebration.

Other awards are as follows:

Employee of the Year: Tommy Hughes
Public Safety Officer of the Year: Wayne Hatfield, Kyle Lowe
Fire Fighter of the Year: Robby Spight
Outstanding Youth Community Service: Ainsley Bruton
Distinguished Health Care Worker: Velma Greer
Community Builder Award: Barbary Kersey
Agriculturist of the Year: Randy Manning
Golden Service: First United Methodist Church of Commerce
Distinguished Community Service: Jack Perky
