Northeast Texas – About 200,000 homes remained without power this morning after storms rolled through the area last night. Most of us in Commerce dodged the bullet for the worst of it, but some power outages were reported on the A&M-Commerce campus and in outlying areas. Some homes in Commerce did not have power restored until 6am this morning.
Throughout Hunt County, high winds toppled trees and caused more power outages. Fallen trees took out power in Greenville, and the roof of a store on Wesley Street collapsed.
Winds of up to 85 miles per hour were recorded in the region. One woman near Waco was killed when she was struck by lightning as she crossed a parking lot after a boating trip on the Tradinghouse Creek reservoir. It was the third death in three days due to storms in Texas.
