Sulphur Springs Main Street project on track

By Scott Harvey

Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Main Street project remains both on schedule and on budget according to City Manager Marc Maxwell. Maxwell presented a progress report to the City Council last week.

Crews have nearly completed pouring all concrete for the project. Underground drainage improvements are also being made. Lighting and trees are expected to be incorporated into the project sometime this month with bricks for the street itself to arrive in September.

The City recently purchased bricks for the project from Metro Brick of Dallas for just over $100,000. Maxwell says the cost is a little more than anticipated, but the project still remains on budget.

City crews began work on the estimated $433,000 project nearly two months ago with completion expected for October 1. The Main Street project will, among other things, include widened sidewalks for more seating and a venue for a farmers market all in an effort to bring more business and events to downtown and make it more attractive to citizens.
