The senior pastor of Lake Highlands Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs has been arrested following an indictment on charges of possession of child pornography. The Sulphur Springs News-Telegram reported that Chad Oather Calhoun, 31, was arrested on the morning of Feb. 27 by federal, county and city law enforcement officers.
Hopkins County Sheriff's Investigator Lewis Tatum told the News-Telegram the investigation began in June 2014 after federal officials identified Calhoun among other users suspected of downloading pornographic images of children. As the investigation began, deputies seized computers that were examined before the case was handed over to federal authorities, the report said. Calhoun was indicted by a federal grand jury on Feb. 19, it said.
Calhoun is no longer associated with Lake Highlands Baptist Church.
Lake Highlands Baptist Church, located at 1500 College St., is affiliated with the Baptist Missionary Association of America, according to the church's website.
