Sulphur Springs' Veterans Memorial breaks ground
By Scott Harvey
Sulphur Springs – Thursday's ceremonial groundbreaking in Sulphur Springs for the Veterans Memorial downtown begins a project that will culminate with a venue to honor Hopkins County veterans.
The interactive walk-through exhibit will feature granite slabs that show the names of local service members. The idea originated through the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial Foundation, chaired by Korean War Veteran Clayton McGraw.
10,000 names will appear on nine slabs once the exhibit opens. McGraw says the exhibit will also feature a kiosk that will allow visitors to search a computer database for each veteran's bio, plus where their name appears within the exhibit.
The project should take about 18 months to complete.
More information is available through hcvm.org.
