Sulphur Springs votes on downtown renovation

By Scott Harvey

Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs City Council Tuesday decided on two important items to reshape its downtown.

After hearing from numerous residents, the council voted to reject back-in parking, and approved a conversion from one-way to two-way traffic around the square.

Last month, the Hopkins County Commissioners Court approved a financial plan for the proposed renovation, which will come from the city's tax increment financing tool. This enables the cost of structural improvements to be repaid by the contribution of future tax revenues of the businesses in that area.

Assisting in the design process were representatives with AECOM, out of Orlando, Florida. The company also assisted in the design of Main Street, which was finished in fall 2008.
