Summer options offered at Children’s Museum

COMMERCE - This Friday marks the start of Fun Friday’s at the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum in Commerce, with events scheduled through mid-August.

Regular Museum admission will be the price for these events. These programs will begin at 11:00 a.m.

On June 15, Indiana Smith presents “Arrows over Texas,” a collection of fossils and Indian artifacts as far back as 1978. A portion of his collection will be available for children to see.

Although not on a Friday, children can attend Wyman Williams’ presentation of mathematics in history entitled “Renaissance Math,” on Saturday, June 16, which focuses on math in both the ancient and modern world.

On June 29 Wendell and Linda Edwards present “Games from Colonial Days”. The Edwards come dressed in clothes from the Colonial period, explaining how games were played in that period.

On July 6, William Scobie performs his “Music for the Family” program for solo violin for ages 3 to 103. “Music for the Family” includes music ranging from Bach to special arrangements of children’s songs.

Additional Fun Friday's include “Dog Days of Summer” by the Commerce Veterinarian Clinic on July 13. Taking care of pets during the hot summer months will be a part of this presentation.

“Cheernastics” with Jacie Arnold and Haley Benson be on August 3. These two women lead the children through tumbling and cheer activities.

Larry Calvin presents a “show and tell” with his animal skulls on August 10.

Dr. Marguerite Callahan, the “turtle lady” will bring her turtles, Big Red and Tuto, to the museum on August 17. She will discuss the physical characteristics of three-toed turtles. Since this is also Davy Crocket’s birthday, anyone wearing a coonskin cap will get one dollar off the regular price of admission.
