SURRMA Agreement Finalized for Highway 24 Widening

COOPER - The Sulphur River Regional Mobility Authority has secured the funding to complete right-of-way and widening of the final stretch of State Highway 24.

The section runs from FM 64 to FM 904, and was agreed to at just over $875,000 as part of an interlocal agreement with the City of Cooper.

SURRMA Chairman Delbert Horton says he’s pleased with this important step of the project, expected to be finished by 2015.

In May, the regional mobility authority received final approval for a loan of more than $4.4 million to move forward on the project, which will widen the remaining ten miles of State Highway 24’s two lanes into four.

Funding for construction of the project was approved in 2011, as part of Proposition 12 bonds that were first approved by voters several years ago. The price tag was about $35 million.
