SURRMA seeks funding for not one, but two projects

By Brad Kellar

A local transportation group is looking to double its intended projects. The Sulphur River Regional Mobility Authority (SURRMA) originally placed a top priority on expanding State Highway 24 from Commerce to Paris. During a meeting of the SURRMA board Wednesday in Greenville, the group decided to instead seek pass-through financing from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for both Highway 24 and the long-delayed expansion of U.S. Highway 69 south of Greenville. The SURRMA board also grew a little smaller Wednesday, as the representatives from Hopkins County one of the Authority's founding counties formally withdrew from the organization.
