Suspect captured following high speed chase

By Scott Harvey

Terrell – A Caddo Mills man is in critical condition after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase through Hunt County before ending near Terrell.

Monday afternoon's episode began when a trooper saw a speeding car driven by 35-year-old Steven Capps. A child, believed to be Capps' son, was also in the car at the time of the chase.

Trooper Tad with the Department of Public Safety Office in Garland says the lengthy chase began on Interstate 30 near Greenville.

"Then they took the 101 exit toward Commerce, turned around, back through Greenville; then FM 1565 through the outskirts of Royse City, down to Poetry."

Capps dodged two road blocks during the pursuit, driving toward troopers the second time, forcing authorities to open fire. Capps was hit twice in the abdomen and airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

According to DPS spokesman Tom Vinger, the child in the car wasn't grazed by gunfire as first thought.

Substances thought to be illegal drugs were also found in the car.
