A Collin County man has been arrested in connection for allegedly stealing copper from a cell phone tower.

27-year-old Kerry Patrick Nehl of Melissa was taken into custody by deputies with the Hunt County Sherriff’s office after an early Sunday morning manhunt which involved a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said his office received a call about a possible theft in progress at the AT&T cell phone tower on US Highway 380 west of Greenville. Meeks says sheriff’s deputies were advised by the company that there appeared to be one male suspect pulling wire from the tower.

A search of the area nearby was conducted with the assistance of a DPS helicopter, eventually leading to Nehl being found hiding in an area of heavy brush. Nehl was arrested and charged with the theft of materials of a value of under $20,000.
