Suspect shot as police try to serve warrants

By Scott Harvey

Hunt County – A South Hunt County man remained in serious condition Tuesday following a reported gun battle with law enforcement officers.

Hunt County officials were assisting officers with the U.S. Marshal's Service from Dallas and Kaufman County deputies attempting to serve warrants for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for Jason Keith Yates, of Wills Point.

But Yates allegedly exited the back of the home on Private Road 3816 and began firing on officers. Officers returned fire, striking Yates twice. He was transported by helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Reports show Yates was also involved in an August 1 shooting in Kaufman County.
