Suspect still sought in shooting

Brad Kellar

A Garland man was still being sought by area law enforcement agencies Monday, in connection with a shooting last week which left a local resident seriously injured.

The Greenville Police Department has issued a warrant for the arrest of Tony Dewayne Hunter Jr. on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, involving the incident early Friday morning at a local club. Hunter had not been taken into custody as of Monday evening.

Russell Lynard Harda-way,  35, of Greenville was listed Saturday as being in the intensive care unit at a Dallas hospital after an argument allegedly led to the shooting.

The police department did not have an update on Hardaway’s condition as of Monday.

According to a statement from the police department, officers were dispatched at approximately 2 a.m. Friday to 1602 Johnson Street, a motorcycle club known as The Street Heat Club, where they discovered Hardaway had been transported by private vehicle to the emergency room at the Hunt Regional Medical Center after having received a single gunshot wound.

Hardaway was later transported via air ambulance to Baylor Hospital in Dallas, where he underwent surgery for his injury.

Hardaway allegedly was involved in an argument with Hunter, 31, who fired multiple times at Hardaway.

Hunter is described as a black male, five foot-10, 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Hunter’s whereabouts are asked to contact the Greenville Police Department at 903-457-2900.
