Terrell man accused of setting child on fire

By Brad Kellar

Terrell – A Terrell man, already facing a number of charges, will likely face even more indictments.

Charles Duane Mayo Jr. already had three indictments pending against him, alleging he committed violent acts against multiple individuals.

Thursday, three more indictments were made public, including an allegation Mayo set a child on fire two years ago. Mayo has pleaded not guilty to all charges. A tentative trial date has been set for March 8, the same day he'll face trial on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Mayo Jr. and Misty Laverna Mayo were alleged to have acted together to molest victims on multiple occasions during 2007 and 2008.

One of the injury to a child indictments alleges Mayo struck a male victim of less than 14 years of age with a belt in May, 2008 and then poured alcohol on the same individual before lighting the alcohol on fire in July, 2008.
