Terrell Tigers: 2013 football preview
Though the Terrell Tigers have been in a rebuilding phase recently and even had a 0-10 season last year, the fan support has never wavered.
This year, head coach Kevin Wilson will have players like linebacker Quamyus White (134 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 defensive touchdowns) returning. Quarterback Cameron Smith had a bit of trouble with turnovers last season (12 interceptions to just three touchdown passes), but another year of experience under his belt should have mostly taken care of that problem.
Terrell is in a district with six of seven schools having at least 300 more students each than Terrell, and non-district play is also challenging with schools like Dallas Carter (9-3 area finalist, 6-1 in District 11-4A) and Mount Pleasant (8-3 bi-district finalist, 4-1 in District 14-4A) on schedule.
District play starts with a game at North Forney (2-8, 1-6 in District 10-4A) and immediately gets tougher with games against West Mesquite (8-3 bi-district finalist, 6-1 in District 10-4A). Terrell then plays at Newman Smith (beat Terrell 49-20 last season), against Forney (5-6 bi-district finalist, 4-3 in District 10-4A), at Mesquite Poteet (11-3 regional semi-finalist, 5-2 in District 10-4A), against Creekview (5-5, 3-4 in District 10-4A), and against Highland Park (9-2 bi-district finalist, 7-0 in District 10-4A).
Terrell should have a better season this year, but it remains to be seen just how far this team can go.
