President Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey has sparked no shortage of backlash. While Democrats have called the firing "downright Nixonian," Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn pounced on what he says is the Democrats’ wanting to have their cake and eat it too.
"Depending on who you're talking to one day, our Democratic friends thought he was riding on a white horse, the next day they thought he was the devil incarnate," Cornyn said. "A lot of hypocrisy in how they're talking about James Comey."
Meanwhile, Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe spoke with Fox News this morning. He told Fox that while he personally likes Comey and sees no ill will in him, he has questioned Comey’s judgment in the handling of the Hilary Clinton email case and supports Trump’s decision to fire him.
"I think the one unpardonable, unforgivable sin," Ratcliffe told Fox, "was when Jim Comey decided to be the FBI director and the attorney general at the same time. You simply can't wear both of those hats."
Ratcliffe also said over the past year, Comey has too often become the story, and that Trump needs to appoint a "fiercely independent" new director of the FBI.
