Texas Reports First Human West Nile Case of 2017

May 18, 2017

The Texas Farm Bureau today reported the first case of human West Nile virus in the state this year.

A woman from Montgomery County, in Deep East Texas, has reportedly contracted the neurological form of the disease.

While the Montgomery County case is the only one of its kind at the moment, the Farm Bureau tagged Dallas and Tarrant counties as two of only five Texas counties with active West Nile colonies this year.

Texas saw 370 cases of human West Nile virus in 2016, including 18 deaths.
