Texas sales tax holiday this weekend

By Scott Harvey

This weekend marks Texas' annual tax-free weekend for shoppers seeking a break from state and local sales tax. The event serves as a good time to take advantage of lower prices on back-to-school shopping.

Savings apply to individual clothing items costing less than $100, including athletic shoes, hiking boots, dresses, shirts, jeans, pajamas, sports jerseys and school uniforms.

Shoppers can save approximately $8 for every $100 spent. Lay-away plans can also be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.

The savings run now through midnight on Sunday.
