Third Candidate Enters State House Race

A third Republican candidate has entered the race for Texas House District 62.

Sherman-based attorney Reggie Smith announced his candidacy yesterday for seat occupied by State Rep. Larry Phillips. Philllips, an eight-term Republican whose district covers parts of Grayson, Fannin, and Delta counties,  announced earlier this week that he won’t seek re-election in 2018.

The news was followed immediately by word that two candidates had filed to run for the post. Smith will run against Brent Lawson, an electrical engineer from Van Alstyne, and Kevin Couch, a former Sherman City Councilman in next year’s primary.
