AUSTIN - The Texas Transportation Commission has approved $165,000 in improvements to Rockwall Municipal Airport, one of roughly 275 community airports in Texas eligible for funding.

In Rockwall, the project will entail engineering and drainage improvements to the site, beginning this fall.

TxDot reports arrivals and departures from community airports account for more than three million flight hours per year and provide aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use.

Last year, airports in Sulphur Springs and Paris combined for nearly $2 million in funding from the state agency.
