Thousands of miles walked, thousands raised for Veterans

Carry the Load

DALLAS - Dozens of walkers participating in a 1,700 mile journey from New York to Dallas were greeted over the weekend as they passed through the region.

The final leg of the Carry the Load relay ended in Dallas Sunday. The journey began on May 1 in an effort to put the meaning back into Memorial Day. It included 350 5-mile segments, and each segment could either be walked or “rucked” by an individual or a group. The trail passed through the local towns of Sulphur Springs, Brashear, Cumby, Lone Oak, Campbell, Greenville, Caddo Mills and Royse City over the weekend.

Closing ceremonies are scheduled in Dallas Monday afternoon. Here are the details. To date, the organization has raise over $477,000.
