Three fires between Wolfe City and Celeste

By Scott Harvey

Wolfe City, Celeste – No one was injured during the series of fires between Wolfe City and Celeste Friday morning, but a couple structures are reportedly destroyed.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. the Celeste Fire Department, with the assistance of the Wolfe City and Merit Fire Departments, responded to a hay fire on County Road 1089 south of Celeste.

While at the site, a call came in to Wolfe City of a reported house fire at the corner of County Road 1019 and County Road 1021, just off of FM 816. Hunt County Fire Marshall Richard Hill says no one was inside the dilapidated structure at the time, and hadn't been occupied in quite some time.

A third fire was then reported at the Hogeye Community Center, at around 7 a.m., where firefighters reportedly battled conditions for approximately two-and-a-half hours. The Center, which is still used on occasion, had no occupants at the time.

Hill says both the vacant home and Community Center, based on initial reports, were completed destroyed. No confirmation was made as to suspicion of foul play. All three fires are under investigation.
