Tigers have week off; Lions wrap up season

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce –
COMMERCE HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS

The Commerce Tigers sit atop district 11-3A, for now, but they sit this final week of the season to see who they will likely share the district crown with. Commerce ended their regular season last week against Quinlan, notching a 3-1 district record and 6-3 overall. Both Emory-Rains and Mount Vernon are at 2-1 in district, with Winnsboro at 1-2 and Quinlan-Ford at 0-3. Emory is at Winnsboro tonight and Mount Vernon is at Quinlan to decide the final two 11-3A playoff teams and who will share the district title.

Commerce will be the big school representative for the first time this year. That puts them up against Kaufman for the first round of the playoffs next week. Kaufman is 3-0 in District 12-3A and 7-1 overall, having lost their only game of the year to Brownsboro to start the season.

It will be tough one next week for the Tigers as they notch another playoff appearance, keeping a 15-year streak alive.

A&M-COMMERCE LIONS

The A&M-Commerce Lions close out their season tomorrow on the road, facing Southwestern Oklahoma. The Lions come off an incredible performance against West Texas A&M, where they lost by two points in the final seconds last week. The Lions go into the game second in the Lone Star Conference North Division and can go .500 for the season with a win.

Game time is set for 6pm Saturday, with live coverage beginning here on 88.9 at 5:30.
