Tigers lose

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce Tigers were unable to take a much-needed win Friday, and fell to Wills Point, 36-20. Both teams needed the game to keep playoff hopes alive.

Wills Point jumped to an early 14-0 lead, but Commerce battled back after forcing a fumble deep in Wills Point territory. Commerce notched a touchdown, and put up another to tie the score at 14 at halftime.

But Wills Point put up 14 more unanswered points to start the second half, and Commerce was reeling. Managing a touchdown late, but failing the 2-point conversion, Commerce brought the score to 28-20. Commerce failed to recover the onside kick with just over two minutes in the game, and Wills Point was in good field position. Wills Point drove the length of the field and notched another score and a two-point conversion to make the final score 36-20 Wills Point.

Wills Point was playing for points, and the tie-breaker, in a possible three-way tie if Commerce beats Quinlan next week.
