Three men have been arrested and charged in connection to a string of burglaries.

On the morning of Tuesday, August 26th, 2014, at around 4:30 am, the Commerce Police Department received a telephone call from a witness that saw two men trying to break into his vehicle on Sterling Hart Drive.  Officers were provided with a thorough description of the suspect’s vehicle as it left the scene. Officers found the suspect’s vehicle near the location of the attempted burglary.

Upon conducting a traffic stop, officers discovered that the vehicle contained several items that were later discovered to be stolen in numerous burglaries around the City of Commerce.  In one of those burglaries, a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition were stolen.  Detectives were able to get locations of the burglaries and many of the people contacted had no idea that their vehicles had been burglarized.  Detectives were able to return the items stolen to the owners.

17 year old Sulphur Springs resident Jonathan James Reeder, 19 year old Sulphur Springs resident Derek Lane Carrell and 18 year old Bartlesville Oklahoma resident Trevor Timothy Keene have been arrested in connection to those burglaries.  They were booked in on charges of Theft of a Firearm and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.  They have been transported to the Hunt County Jail and are being held on $7,500 bond for each charge.

In addition to the Commerce burglaries, all three persons have admitted to burglaries in other areas such as Yantis and Sulphur Springs.
