Trans Texas Corridor no more...

By Brad Kellar

The State of Texas no longer has the Trans Texas Corridor to kick around. The proposed massive superhighway project which would have cut a wide swath across North Texas, including much of Rockwall County, is dead. Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Tuesday announced the end of the project as it had been envisioned, due to public opposition. There will still be several transportation projects such as toll roads which will be built, but they will be smaller than what had been proposed for the Corridor. More than 250 people gathered in Greenville in the summer of 2006 for a public hearing regarding the Corridor, most of whom were opposed to the superhighway project.
